YOG ASAN

Yog
Patanjali Rishi (sage) has defined eight types of means for purification of body, mind and soul known as Ashtang yoga.
The eight yogic practices are:-

1. Yam- Restraint of passions.
2. Niyam- Practice. (Yam & Niyam are the moral codes of life.)
3. Asan - Posture (Practice of Physical exercise (Asanas).
4. Pranayam- (Science of Breathing).
5. Pratyahar leading to the higher realms of controlling the mind through the practice of pratyahars (withdrawal) of senses) - Restraining the sense organs.
6. Dharana (One pointed ness) - To sustain, to bear.
7. Dhyan- Meditation, Thought.
8. Samadhi (Union with Divine).

It is not necessary to do many Asana (as there are so many Asana (Postures) select the group of Asana with a view of your body and ailments, under the guidance of a guru.
The process of doing Asana is more important instead of repeating the Asan. As Yogasanas open the energy channels and psychic centers, hence the guru is needed.
Asana (Postures) make one firm, body becomes free of disease and resistance power increases.
The aim of Yogasans is not to exhaust you but give the rest & sense of wellness. This is a Sadhana, do it slowly & regularly.
